Case study
A first-floor tenement flat with the original rewireable fuse board still in place: no RCD protection anywhere in the property, a plastic enclosure, and main earthing that had never been upgraded from the day it went in.
Every circuit was tested before anything was disconnected, which is the step that decides whether a board swap is enough on its own. Insulation resistance came back healthy across all six circuits, so the existing wiring stayed. The board was replaced with a metal-clad 10-way unit on individual RCBOs with surge protection, the main earthing conductor was upsized, and protective bonding was run to the gas and water services.
Retested, labelled, and certified the same day. Power was off for around four hours in total.
