Emergency Electrician — what it involves

If you can smell burning, see scorching around a socket or switch, or there is any sign of heat at the consumer unit, switch off at the main switch and call. Do not keep resetting a breaker that keeps tripping — it is doing its job, and the fault behind it does not go away.

Fault finding is a process, not a guess. We isolate circuit by circuit, take insulation resistance and continuity readings, and find the actual cause rather than replacing parts until something changes.

What we provide

  • Rapid response call-outs across Glasgow and the surrounding areas
  • Systematic fault finding with insulation resistance and continuity testing
  • Making safe and isolating faulty circuits on the first visit
  • Temporary supply arrangements so you are not left without power or light
  • Emergency consumer unit and RCD replacement
  • Repair of damaged cabling, accessories and connections
  • Written record of what was found and what was done
  • Follow-up quote for any permanent remedial work

Why customers call us

Common emergency call-outs

  • Total loss of power

Main switch tripped, supply fault, or a fault on a circuit pulling the whole board out.

  • A breaker or RCD that keeps tripping

Almost always a real earth fault or an overload, not a faulty breaker.

  • Burning smell or scorch marks

Loose terminations and overheating connections. Switch off and call — this one does not wait.

  • Sockets dead or intermittent

A broken ring, a failed connection in a back box, or damage from other trades.

  • Lights out on one circuit

Failed connection at a rose, switch or joint, often after a lamp blows.

  • Water ingress

Leaks into ceiling roses, downlights and outside fittings need the circuit isolated and dried before re-energising.

What you get

The difference it makes

Made safe on the first visit

The immediate risk is dealt with before anything else, even where the full repair needs parts.

Diagnosis, not parts-swapping

Test readings tell us where the fault is. You are not paying for a process of elimination.

Told what it will cost

You get the price for the repair before we carry it out.

Straight answers

If the real answer is that the installation needs more than a repair, we will say so.

Questions

Emergency Electrician — your questions answered

What should I do before you arrive?

If there is a burning smell, visible scorching or heat at the board, switch off at the main switch and leave it off. Otherwise leave the tripped device off rather than repeatedly resetting it, and unplug anything you suspect.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

You will be told the call-out charge and the hourly rate before we set off, so there is no surprise when the job is done.

Can you fix it on the same visit?

Most faults are found and repaired on the first visit. Where a part has to be ordered, the installation is left safe and usable and we come back with it.

Is a tripping RCD dangerous?

The RCD tripping is the protection working. What matters is the fault causing it, which is why the answer is testing rather than resetting.

Do you cover out of hours?

Call and we will tell you honestly when we can be there. If we cannot get to you fast enough for a genuine emergency we will say so rather than leave you waiting.
