Consumer Unit Upgrades — what it involves
A modern board does two things an old one cannot: it detects earth faults fast enough to protect a person, and it isolates a fault to one circuit instead of blacking out the whole property. Move to individual RCBOs and a fault in the garden lighting stops affecting the fridge and the boiler.
Every board we fit is metal-clad, comes with surge protection where the installation warrants it, is fully labelled, and leaves with test results for every circuit.

How long does a consumer unit upgrade take?
Most domestic replacements take a single working day, including testing and certification. Power is off for part of the day and back on before we leave.
Do I need a new fuse box if mine still works?
Working is not the same as safe. A board with no RCD protection will not disconnect fast enough to protect someone touching a live conductor. If yours has rewireable fuses or a plastic enclosure, replacing it is worth doing.
Will you need to rewire the house as well?
Not usually. We test every circuit before quoting. If the existing wiring tests healthy, a board change is all that is needed — and we will tell you plainly if it is not.
What is an RCBO and why does it matter?
An RCBO combines overload and earth-fault protection in one device per circuit. Instead of one RCD covering half the house, each circuit has its own, so a fault trips only the circuit it is on.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. An Electrical Installation Certificate with full test results for every circuit, which is what insurers, letting agents and solicitors ask for.
