Lighting

Lighting Installation in Glasgow

Lighting is the part of an electrical installation people actually look at every day. Getting it right is a design job as much as a wiring job — beam angles, colour temperature, dimming, and where the drivers are going to live.

Lighting Installation — what it involves

Most disappointing lighting is not badly installed, it is badly planned: downlights on a grid instead of over what needs lighting, one colour temperature through a whole house, or dimmers that were never matched to the drivers and buzz.

We plan layouts around the room and the way you use it, specify fittings that dim cleanly, and put drivers and transformers somewhere they can actually be reached when one eventually fails.

What we provide

  • Fire-rated LED downlights, planned to the room rather than a grid
  • LED strip and COB lighting in coving, shelving, kitchens and media walls
  • Under-cabinet and plinth lighting
  • Stair, step and skirting lighting
  • Feature and architectural lighting, including wall grazing and uplighting
  • Track lighting, pendants and statement fittings
  • Smart lighting — dimming, scenes, app and voice control
  • Correctly matched dimmers and drivers so nothing buzzes or flickers

Why customers call us

Common reasons for lighting installation

  • A single pendant doing all the work

One ceiling point gives you one flat light level and nothing else.

  • A kitchen with shadows on the worktop

Downlights behind you cast your own shadow where you are chopping. Under-cabinet lighting fixes it.

  • Dark or awkward stairs

Stair and step lighting is as much about safety as it is about looks.

  • Renovation or extension

New ceilings are the moment to get the layout, the wiring and the switching right.

  • Old halogen downlights

Hot, power-hungry, and short-lived. LED replacement pays for itself and runs cooler.

  • Buzzing or flickering dimmers

Nearly always a mismatch between the dimmer and the LED driver. It is fixable.

What you get

The difference it makes

Layered, not flat

Ambient, task and accent lighting on separate circuits so one room can do several jobs.

Consistent colour temperature

Fittings specified as a set, so the light is the same colour from room to room.

Dimming that behaves

Drivers and dimmers matched deliberately, tested on site before we call it done.

Serviceable

Drivers positioned where they can be reached without cutting a ceiling open.

Questions

Lighting Installation — your questions answered

How many downlights does a room need?

Fewer than most people expect. It depends on ceiling height, beam angle and what the room is for — a plan built around the worktop, the seating and the artwork beats a grid every time.

What colour temperature should I choose?

Around 2700K for living rooms and bedrooms, 3000K for kitchens and bathrooms where you want more clarity. The important part is keeping it consistent through the property.

Can you install lighting without lifting the whole floor?

Usually. Existing ceiling voids, coving and loft access give us more routes than people expect, particularly in tenement flats.

Why do my LED lights flicker when dimmed?

The dimmer and the LED driver are not compatible, or the load is below the dimmer’s minimum. Both are fixable, and we test the combination before installing throughout.

Can you make it smart?

Yes — dimming, scenes, app control and voice assistants. We will also tell you where a plain wall switch is the better answer.
